Water Distribution Operator in Training

HKA is working on behalf of Jacobs and this role is to support Jacobs’ work through HKA.

General Responsibilities:

• Under the direction of a certified operator:
• Controls flow and adjusts treatment processes to ensure that the facility achieves compliance with applicable environmental permits
• Operates equipment such as; ½ ton and ¾ ton pick-up truck, pumps, and other plant related equipment
• Understands and carries out oral and written directions
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
• Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures; familiar with confined space entry, traffic safety and control

Specific Responsibilities:

• Under the direction of a certified operator:
• Collects readings and other information for plant facilities, records information on computers, operator logs, work orders or other designated record keeping systems
• Collects samples and conducts the in-plant tests necessary to control and monitor treatment facility processes and operation
• Performs in-plant maintenance according to the schedules and procedures established for the facilities to which assigned. This includes cleaning, servicing, lubricating and repairing pumps, aeration equipment, chemical feed equipment, grounds maintenance equipment, and other mechanical devices found in water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Performs work of Utility Worker classification as required.

Qualifications:

• Operations and preventative maintenance of vehicles, pumps, motors and other water and sewer treatment related equipment
• Good basic computer skills, able to work with internet, spreadsheets and word documents
• High school graduate, or successful completion of General Education Diploma (GED)
• Must have current California Drivers’ License
• Must obtain CA Grade 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator license within a year of hire.
• Must possess a CA Grade 2 Water Distribution Plant Operator license.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor level to waist high. Items lifted are often bulky and difficult to handle
• Must be able to climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold
• Must be able to ascend and descend 1,000 steps per day
• Must be able to use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts
• Must be able to carry a 50-pound toolbox up a flight of stairs
• Must be able to work in constricted places
• Must have flexibility to reach, stoop, and bend to work on equipment
