Wastewater and Water Treatment Plant Operator

Responsibilities:

Upon site specific training, the incumbent will operate the local WWTP and WTP in accordance with the State Permits and applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes, principles of supervision and training; safe work practices

General Responsibilities:

• Operates, repairs, and maintains the water/wastewater treatment plant’s facilities
• Performs routine laboratory tests
• Understands and carries out oral and written directions
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of workSpecific Responsibilities:
• Performs any combinations of following tasks pertinent to controlling operation of plant:
• Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/ wastewater, sludge, and effluent
• Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
• Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings
• Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
• Starts and stops pump, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
• Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
• Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses
• Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
• Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel
• Does related work as required

Qualifications:

• CR.334.WAT.JC5.Operator II
•  Possess a Grade 3 and Grade 2 Wastewater and Water Treatment Plant Operator Certifications in the State of California

Qualifications:

• Min. 5 years’ experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants
• Possess a valid operating license in water and wastewater treatment
• Operator certification at a level required by the State and the project (CA Grade III Wastewater and Grade II Treatment Plant Operator Certifications)
• Possess a valid driver's license with excellent record.
• The operator is required to drive a company vehicle within urban areas to accomplish the job duties.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

• Must be able to transport self over plant facility
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairs
• Must be able to lift bags/objects weighing up to 50 pounds each from floor level to waist high
• Must be able to bend frequently to collect samples
• Must be able to work graveyard upon project's needs
• Must be able to work in all types of weather
