Wastewater Operator-in-Training (OIT)
Job Description
Position Overview
Seeking a motivated Wastewater Operator-in-Training (OIT) to support daily operations at a wastewater treatment facility and progress toward a Florida Class C Operator License.
Pay: $19–$21/hr
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Florida driver’s license
- Ability to obtain FDEP OIT registration
- Ability to complete coursework toward Class C licensure
- Basic math/science knowledge preferred
Responsibilities
- Monitor and inspect plant equipment (pumps, motors, aerators, valves)
- Record operational data (flow rates, tank levels, SCADA systems)
- Collect samples and perform basic lab testing (pH, DO, chlorine)
- Assist with chemical handling and treatment processes
- Perform basic maintenance and facility upkeep
- Maintain logs and follow safety procedures (PPE, confined space, lockout/tagout)
Licensing & Growth
- Obtain Class C Wastewater Operator License within 24 months
- Complete required training and gain on-the-job experience
- Opportunity for advancement (Class B and A licenses)
Working Conditions
- Indoor/outdoor work in varying conditions
- Exposure to wastewater, chemicals, noise, and odors
- Physical work (lifting, climbing, confined spaces)
- May require shifts, weekends, and on-call
