Qualifications:
MECHANIC-IN-TRAINING - WATER/WASTEWASTER TREATMENT FACILITY
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and one (1) year in a Mechanical related field or position.
Perform skilled mechanical work independently. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Work from sketches, blueprints and diagrams.
Use and care for bench and hand tools, machines and equipment of the mechanical trades. Develop and maintain accurate maintenance records including Computerized Maintenance Management System information.
Ability to use computers and handheld electronic devices in the course of work
Responsibilities:
Use a variety of power hand tools, cutting and welding equipment and electrical test equipment. Clean, oil and paint plant equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on wastewater treatment plant mechanical and electrical equipment. Evaluate equipment performance and identify problem areas. Maintain stock inventory and adequate supply of replacement parts. Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes. Perform general maintenance duties in the plant, including buildings, grounds and mechanical and electrical equipment as required. Plant mechanics may be required to respond to emergency situations after normal working hours that include inclement weather that include Hurricanes and or any unforeseen weather event and be subject to serve on emergency stand-by alert and call out status on a rotational basis, including participation in rotating stand-by duties. Train and assist less experienced maintenance personnel. Operate heavy duty technical equipment to transport goods and materials. Analyze or create documents, such as blueprints, markings, surveys, etc. to problem solve the most effective approach to a task. Verify the work of others for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance. Schedule and supervise assigned staff. Provide technical support for other work groups. Fabricate materials. Formulate solutions to problems with equipment or operations, including logistics and operations.
Skilled mechanical work in the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of municipal wastewater equipment and infrastructure. An employee in this classification utilizes knowledge of mechanical systems, basic electricity, and plumbing to locate and correct malfunctions of wastewater lift station equipment, force mains, wet wells, and treatment plant equipment and associated utilities systems.
Have the ability to work incremental weather that includes Hurricanes and other abnormal events.
Have the ability to work after hours, weekends & Holidays.
Have the ability to take verbal instructions from Supervisor and communicate back to supervisor about any topic at hand.
Have the ability to work with small tools, computer programs & painting equipment.
