As a Mechanic, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services uninterrupted. Based in Spokane, you’ll have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks in the preventive and corrective maintenance on the County’s wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. You’ll perform prevention and corrective maintenance on buildings, structures, grounds, machinery and equipment; lubricate equipment and check for malfunctions; replace packing in pumps or valves; replace bearings in motors, pumps, and other equipment; examine equipment failures to identify cause and to prevent recurrences; and install and set up new equipment. You’ll also clean and paint interior and exterior equipment and buildings; clean out pipes and perform other plumbing and pipe fitting tasks as required; assist in keeping maintenance records; and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you’ll take action to ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your team.

Pay:$22.02 - $35.24 per hour DOE


Qualifications - External

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year experience with maintenance and repair of advanced electrical and mechanical equipment
  • The ability to obtain a Washington State Wastewater Treatment Operator License within 18 months
  • Proficiency in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) 
  • A valid driver’s license


Ideally, You’ll Also Have: 

  • Some trade school education with an emphasis on electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience in the maintenance department at a water or wastewater treatment facility


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans, specifications, and mechanical illustrations
  • Performs skilled mechanical repair work on water/wastewater treatment plant equipment and related equipment
  • Analyzes equipment failures to determine cause and to prevent recurrences
  • Follows oral and written directions
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing at all levels regarding recommended maintenance and repair procedures
  • Provides on-the-job training to less experienced employees
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical machinery or equipment
  • Lubricates equipment and checks for malfunctions
  • Replaces bearings, packing, seals, shafts, sleeves, seats, or other components found in treatment plant equipment
  • Uses special tools, such as bearing pullers, torch, welding machine, hoist, or other equipment used in the repair of treatment plant equipment
  • Performs other duties as required

 The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals.  The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
