About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Utility Worker to support the operation and maintenance of water production and distribution systems. This is an entry-level position that does not require a water certification and offers excellent growth opportunities through employer-sponsored training and certification programs.
The successful candidate will assist with operating, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing water system infrastructure while ensuring safe and reliable water service to the community.
Pay: $21.49 per hourBenefits Upon Conversion

- Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on water production and distribution systems.
- Install, operate, and repair:
- Water mains
- Service lines
- Fire hydrants
- Water valves
- Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs)
- Water meters
- Read and monitor gauges, meters, and control panels.
- Start and stop equipment and operate valves to control water flow.
- Clean vehicles, pumps, equipment, tools, and facilities.
- Perform routine inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct basic maintenance activities such as lubrication, oil changes, and greasing equipment.
- Maintain grounds, buildings, and facility appearance.
- Operate vehicles and equipment used for excavation, hauling, loading, and material handling.
- Assist operations and maintenance personnel with materials, supplies, and tools.
- Maintain operational records including pump hours, flow rates, chemical usage, and facility logs.
- Read and record water meter readings accurately.
- Participate in on-call assignments and emergency response activities as needed.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work safely around water system infrastructure and equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergencies.
- Basic knowledge of water distribution or water production systems.
- Experience operating or maintaining:
- Vehicles
- Pumps
- Farm equipment
- Heavy equipment
- Mechanical systems
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools.
- Experience performing equipment inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Interest in obtaining water operator certifications.
- Indoor and outdoor work environments.
- Exposure to:
- Weather conditions
- Active machinery
- High-pressure fluid systems
- Electrical equipment
- Confined spaces
- Heights and depths
- Airborne particles
- Chemicals
- Noise
- Required use of PPE and safety equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, climb, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to carry a 50-pound toolbox up a flight of stairs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding labor throughout the workday.
