Utility Worker – Water / Wastewater / Streets
Job Description
Pay: $22.50 per hour
On-Call Required
We are seeking a Utility Worker to support operations within the Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and Street Maintenance departments. This role performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks to help maintain safe and reliable public infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have experience in public works, utilities, or construction-related work and be comfortable operating equipment and performing outdoor labor in various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
• Assist with operation, repair, and maintenance of streets, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems
• Inspect and maintain water lines, sewer systems, storm drains, lift stations, and catch basins
• Install, repair, and read water meters
• Perform water shut-offs and turn-ons
• Install and repair water lines, valves, pumps, standpipes, manholes, and cleanouts
• Perform street maintenance including paving, patching, concrete repair, and sign maintenance
• Assist with snow removal and sanding operations
• Operate and maintain light and heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, sewer cleaners, and welders
• Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment and tools
• Respond to customer service requests and public concerns
• Use utility locator services prior to excavation
• Report hazards such as potholes, water leaks, or fallen signs
• Maintain accurate records and reports of work performed
• Follow all safety procedures and department policies
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license
Some experience in water distribution, sewer collections, street maintenance, construction, or public works
Ability to operate or learn to operate construction and utility equipment
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Ability to lift, carry, and perform physical labor
Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies when on call
Additional Information
• On-call rotation required for emergency response
• Work may include weekends, nights, or emergency call-outs
• Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
