Job Description:

As a Senior Structural Designer will be able to undertake design and specification of the range of building structural engineering services in either a lead or supporting role depending on project complexity and scale.

Designing structural solutions within the integrated design team will involve the use of technical engineering software and proactive involvement with BIM models for projects. 

Contribute to design projects across offices and internationally where required

Design and specification for small/medium projects using a range of structural engineering software including Fastrak Building Designer, Orion, TEDDS and S-Frame.

Liaising with clients, architects and other design team members.

Preparation of reports, drawings and specifications

Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships.

Representation of the discipline and Jacobs at internal and external meetings

Project management of suitable projects

Manage other engineers and designers and helping to mentor graduate engineers.

Monitoring and reporting progress against time and financial objectives

Compliance with design and QA procedures

Monitoring of installation works on site and observance of technical compliance and H&S matters

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required

Demonstrable experience of delivering projects from concept through completion

Experience in the design and specification of building structures in steel, concrete, masonry and timber to standards and codes.

Experience in leading the structural design of small/medium sized projects.

Proven ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with clients, architects and other design team members and the ability to represent the company at external meetings and at presentations.

Ability to undertake structural inspections and report on material and construction defects and provide guidance for remedial repairs.

Competent user of Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel

Familiar with US Building Regulations and design standards for discipline

Appreciation of capital and whole life cost

Committed to sustainable design with knowledge of current techniques and technologies as applied to own discipline

Experience of multi-disciplinary and/or multi-office project execution

Business development experience

Experience in mentoring staff in professional development

Background Knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit software

Able to obtain security clearance for selected projects

Flexible, adaptable and collaborative approach to multidisciplinary design, willing to engage across the design disciplines

Organized and methodical but open-minded approach to the design process
