SUE Technician III

Responsibilities

• Locate and designate all utility line types utilizing electromagnetic pipe locators, ground penetrating radar (GPR) or other geophysical means. Utility line types include power/electric, water, sanitary sewer, gas, fiber optic, telecommunication, PVC, or other “Unknown” underground utility types.
• Mark utilities with appropriate color paint and produce a sketch on PointMan application of the results for future reference.
• Operate and maintain a vacuum excavation truck and related equipment safely and efficiently and then compiling the appropriate reports associated with the project.
• Perform other S.U.E. duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 - 4 years of utility locating or designating experience using many types of electromagnetic cable and pipe locating devices.
• Experience with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) preferred.
• Understanding basic traffic control and the hazards associated with working in and around traffic and follow safety precautions.
• Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Surveying, CADD, and vacuum excavation truck experience a plus. 

• A current valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a DOT Medical card for Commercial Motor Vehicle operation needed.
• Current Commercial Driver’s License is a plus.
• NULCA or other third-party locator certification is a plus.

Skills

• Ability to follow instructions, possess the ability to be coached, mentored, and have a positive can-do attitude are necessities.
• Work in a team environment but also be willing to work independently.
• Have a basic knowledge of various underground utilities and able to identify surface features associated with various utilities.
• Must be able to lift fifty pounds, walk for extended periods, work in all weather conditions, willing to work evenings/weekends when required, willing to travel for overnight and extended stay projects as required.
• Ability to perform equipment maintenance tasks a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude is desired.
