Job Description
The client is looking for an Estimator to fill their open position in Houston, TX. The new team member is required to have a minimum of five years’ experience in estimating or project management for a shop fabrication company
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ESTIMATOR
• Reviews data and blueprints to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists of cost estimates.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, change order pricing, vendors or subcontractor’s agreement, and determining cost effectiveness.
o Consults with customers, subcontractors, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
o Facilitate change orders with project management
o Assists in preparing subcontractor bid packages.
o Assist project managers on bid follow-ups when required.
o Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, etc.
o Review offers and quotes from subcontractors and vendors.
o Submit estimate reports and bids to project managers, clients, etc.
o Establish and maintain working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, etc.
• Works on bids as small as $50,000 and as large as $50,000,000
• Most commonly builds estimate packages for vessels, structural and pipe
• Assist project managers with communications to entire team during kick-off meetings
Job Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of five years’ experience in estimating or project management for a shop fabrication company
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and other materials typically issued during a bid, specifically for structural, vessels and piping
• Strong knowledge of structural, vessels, piping, valves and instrumentation, pipeline construction means and methods
• Capable of writing an accurate and formal proposal containing technical information
• Ability to coordinate the bid solicitation process
• Proficient in Excel
• Strong knowledge of Word and Outlook required
• Knowledge of Compress (ASME Code) software
• Basic understanding of the following standards:
o ASME Section VIII Div. 1
o ASME B31.1, B31.2, B31.3, B31.4 and B31.8
o AISC Structural Code and AWS
• Strong knowledge of downstream and midstream process equipment
• Basic knowledge of upstream equipment
• Good time management as this position will work on multiple estimating assignments at a time
• Strong organizational skills
• Must be team oriented with excellent
