Job Description

The primary responsibility for this position is to work with our mechanical engineering team in developing new solutions and supporting ongoing process improvement initiatives for the Burnsville, MN site. They will perform assignments requiring the use and application of moderate to complex mechanical engineering principles and techniques. They must be capable of performing mechanical design and analysis to meet system requirements with familiarity in pressurized systems and electro-mechanical sensing. The engineer who fills this position must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to reverse engineer components from their physical configuration. This position will be heavily reliant on the development of mechanical interfaces and components used on electro-mechanical test equipment. *******What You Will Do: •Develop designs, create and modify documentation, support production with mechanical analysis and troubleshooting • Contribute to the success of a cross-functional team to develop solutions to production and field-testing problems. This could include initial design, prototyping, and environment testing solutions. • Design of test fixtures, cables, interconnects with associated documentation • Plan and manage tasks effectively • Facilitate documentation and drawings of mechanical designs from ideation through release • Specific tasks include fixture and cabling design and documentation, reverse engineering of existing fixturing, prototype build/test/verify, design verification, drawing creation and release to production environment • A successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and documentation of complex assemblies supporting manufacturing test equipment. Demonstrated experience interacting with various engineering teams comprised of other mechanical engineers, mechanical drafters, electrical engineers, software engineers and system engineers.   • Excellent working knowledge with Solidworks, NX Designer, AutoCAD, or similar design tools, and 3D printing • Demonstrated practical experience with mechanical engineering design and analysis • Ability to translate requirements into physical design constraints • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 3 years prior relevant experience, an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 1 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience • Qualifications We Prefer: • Hands-on personality who seeks continuous feedback on design performance and acceptance • Candidate must be detail oriented and be able to excel in a team environment where there may be gaps in information that requires research • Familiar with Collins Aerospace or Avionics products • Mechanical equipment design specific to test systems • Experience in typical fabrication processes (CNC, welding, sheet metal fab, additive, etc.) • Extensive drafting knowledge for creation of robust documentation of machined and fabricated components • GD&T expertise
