HKA is working on behalf of Jacobs and this role is to support Jacobs’ work through HKA


  • Supervises all preventive and corrective maintenance on treatment plants and equipment
  • Plans, schedules and directs maintenance of a wide variety of special­ized mechanical and electrical equipment plus buildings, structures, and grounds
  • Evaluates maintenance policies and objectives
  • Makes estimates of cost and time for all aspects of mainte­nance, repair, and con­struction work
  • Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans, spec­ifica­tions, and mechanical illustrations
  • Performs skilled mechanical repair work on wastewater treat­ment plant en­gines, pumps, and other equipment
  • Diagnoses malfunctions and determines effective courses of action for cor­recting them
  • Performs heavy manual labor
  • Keeps records and prepares routine and special reports
  • Follows oral and written directions
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing
  • Develops, implements and enforces safety regulations and procedures
  • Provides training to less experienced employees
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work


  • Perform work on major and minor repair work and overhauls on plant's engines, motors, pumps, and related equipment
  • Schedules work to be done and determines type and quantities of materials needed for such work
  • Inspects buildings and equipment for needed maintenance and repair
  • Ensures the proper use and care of tools, materials, and safety equipment
  • Assures adherence to safety, cleanliness, and fire prevention rules and stan­dards
  • Tunes up engines; sets valve clearances; and cleans and adjusts regulators, gas, and other controls and devices
  • Maintains and repairs pumps; replaces bearings, valves, seals, and controllers; builds pump mounts and brackets; does welding.
  • Maintains comprehensive log of all maintenance work done on equipment
  • Determines remedial action in emergency situations

Job Requirements


  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in the con­struc­tion, repair, and operation of engines, pumps, and other mechanical equipment related to wastewater treatment plant opera­tions and procedures
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of an effective mechanical, struc­tural, and grounds preventive maintenance program and opera­tions of internal combustion engines and electrical pump motors
  • Basic electrical knowledge involved in working on pumps, motors, and oth­er equip­ment; equipment, tools, and materials used in maintaining and repairing wastewater treatment plant and related equipment
  • Demonstrated experience in safety principles and practices, and related state and federal laws and regula­tions


  • Must be able to team lift 100 pounds from floor level to waist high; items lifted are often bulky and difficult to handle
  • Must be able to climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold
  • Must be able to ascend and descend 1,000 steps per day (8-hour shift)
  • Must be able to use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts
  • Must be able to carry a 50-pound tool box up a flight of stairs
  • Must be able to work in tight places
  • Must have flexibility to reach, stoop, and bend to work on equipment
