HVAC Mechanic
Job Description
Commercial HVAC · Building Automation · Central Plant · EPA Certification
This position is subject to a trimester rotation of a 24/7/365 shift schedule — rotating shifts required.
Pay: $30.00 per hour
We're looking for a motivated HVAC Facilities Technician to support the operation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of commercial Air, Water, and Building Automation Systems on a large campus facility. You'll work under direct supervision using standard HVAC tools and testing equipment, adhere to site safety and quality standards, and gain hands-on experience across a campus primarily served by a Central Plant for heating and cooling. This is an excellent opportunity for advanced HVAC students or early-career technicians ready to grow in a commercial environment.
What you'll do
- Operate, inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC air, water, and building automation systems
- Support Central Plant operations for campus cooling and heating
- Utilize standard HVAC testing equipment and tools under direct supervision
- Record pertinent information in equipment and systems maintenance logs
- Identify the need for diagnosis and repair of all related equipment
- Implement accepted trade practices consistent with HVAC industry standards
- Adhere to all site safety, quality, housekeeping, and security standards
- Rotate through 24/7/365 shift schedule on a trimester basis
What you need
- Current enrollment or advancement in an Applied Technologies HVAC program
- EPA Refrigerant License — or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
- Clean driving record
- Competent electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, brazing, diagnostic, and mechanical skills
- Willingness to work a rotating 24/7/365 trimester shift schedule
- Reliable attendance — show up on time and ready to work every shift
Nice to have
- Associate of Arts/Science degree in HVAC/R Technologies — achieved or in progress
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- 1–3 years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience in campus-related environments
- Experience with Central Plant or large-scale campus heating/cooling systems
