General Maintenance Technician – Central Utility Plant
Pay: $20.00- $22.00 per hour DOE
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and motivated General Maintenance Technician to support operations at our Central Utility Plant. This role is ideal for someone interested in building a long-term career in facilities, utilities, or skilled trades. You will work alongside experienced technicians to help maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems in a safe, professional, and team-oriented environment.
This position offers hands-on experience, opportunities to learn new skills, and exposure to industrial and commercial equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & Equipment Support
Assist with routine inspections and monitoring of plant equipment including pumps, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, and related systems.
Support preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, filter replacement, belt adjustments, cleaning, and general equipment upkeep.
Record operational readings (pressure, temperature, flow, amperage) and promptly report abnormal conditions.
Electrical & Controls Assistance
Perform basic electrical tasks under supervision, including lamp replacement and tightening connections.
Assist with lockout/tagout procedures and routine electrical inspections.
Plumbing & Building Maintenance
Assist with basic plumbing repairs involving domestic water systems, valves, drains, and hydronic piping.
Support general building maintenance tasks such as drywall patching, painting, door hardware replacement, and equipment room organization.
Safety, Housekeeping & Team Support
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and material handling equipment.
Follow all site safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
Communicate safety concerns, equipment issues, or unusual conditions to supervisors.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
High school diploma or GED.
Interest in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or facilities maintenance work.
Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work as part of a team.
Ability to safely use basic hand tools.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
Prior hands-on experience or coursework in maintenance trades.
Familiarity with industrial or commercial facilities.
Mechanical aptitude and interest in technical systems.
Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and good communication skills.
Backgrounds in construction, warehouse operations, automotive, military service, or trade school are a plus.
