HKA is working on behalf of Jacobs and this role is to support Jacobs’ work through HKA.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a wide variety of public works tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of public streets and right-of-ways.
  • Operates all types of public works equipment: loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, snow plows, etc.
  • This entry-level position involves a period of training and familiarization after which the employee will perform the full duties of the position.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain public streets and rights-of-way, including street signs, pavement markings, trees, and community relation projects.
  • Produce a variety of records and reports relating to these activities.
  • Perform required labor involved in the construction and maintenance of pavement cutting, crack sealing, base repair, sidewalks, curb, gutter, and wheelchair ramps repair, tree removal, and snow removal.
  • Operate, maintain and perform minor repair to light and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, chainsaws, welders, etc.).
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use.
  • Report defects or needed repairs to lead worker or supervisor.
  • Respond to various customer service requests and report findings to the supervisor.
  • Maintain good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to customer complaints.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and respectful work relationships with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Use utility locator service prior to any excavation. Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Complete daily work activities according to work schedules.
  • Respond to after hour’s emergencies within 30 minutes.
  • May assist other Public Works departments as needed.
  • Report public hazards (potholes, fallen street signs, water leaks, etc.) to lead worker or supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of: equipment, materials, supplies, practices, methods, hazards and safety precautions used in street maintenance and road construction; tree maintenance; and heavy equipment operation.
  • Able to read, comprehend, and respond to written and verbal instruction.
  • Have basic knowledge to operate computer word and spreadsheet programs.
  • Previous experience in the street maintenance field Obtain a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements and flagger certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Herbicide/pesticide applicator’s license may be required.
