Utility Worker II (Water Distribution)
Job Description
We are seeking a Utility Worker II to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater systems. This role involves fieldwork, equipment operation, and on-call responsibilities in support of essential public infrastructure.
Pay: $20.98 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
Install, locate, maintain, and repair water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, PRVs, and meters
Perform routine servicing and corrective maintenance on water and wastewater systems
Locate and mark underground utilities using maps and tools
Operate dump trucks, hydro excavators, trenching equipment (Ditch Witch), and other heavy equipment
Load/unload materials and dig/refill trenches
Perform routine inspections and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment
Maintain grounds and facilities as needed
Follow all safety procedures and project SOPs
Participate in on-call rotations and respond to call-ins as required
Basic Qualifications:
Valid New Mexico Driver’s License
New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
High School Diploma or GED
1–2 years of experience in the water utility field
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of water distribution system operations and maintenance
Experience operating heavy equipment
Familiarity with hand and power tools
Digital literacy (CMMS systems, mobile devices, work management software)
New Mexico Water Supply Level 1 or Water Distribution Level 1 certification (or ability to obtain within 2 years)
Physical & Work Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift, carry, and operate tools and equipment
Willingness to work on-call shifts and overtime as needed
