Code Enforcement Technician

Pay: $21.00- $31.50 per hour DOE
Position Summary
The Code Compliance Officer II is an intermediate-level position responsible for enforcing City codes and ordinances related to nuisance, land use, property maintenance, noise, and vehicle regulations. This role requires sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage routine and non-routine compliance issues with minimal supervision.
The Officer II serves as a resource to the public, other City departments, and junior officers by providing guidance on code interpretation, application, and resolution of compliance issues. This position plays a vital role in protecting public health, safety, and overall quality of life within the community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Enforce City codes and ordinances related to nuisance and land use
Respond to citizen complaints, concerns, and City Council requests
Conduct scheduled and complaint-based property inspections
Prepare accurate records, reports, and documentation of investigations and enforcement actions
Compile documentation and issue summons, administrative citations, and abatement requests with supervisory approval
Testify in municipal court as required
Assist junior officers with technical questions, code interpretation, and problem resolution
Collaborate with other City departments to resolve compliance issues
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 6 months of experience in customer service, enforcement, compliance, or investigative work
Ability to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and professionalism
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record
Ability to personally operate a City vehicle as required
Ability to obtain Colorado Association of Code Enforcement (CACEO) certification when available
Ability to pass Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) screening
Preferred Qualifications
Education or knowledge in Environmental Studies, Planning, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, or a related field
Two (2) years of experience in code enforcement or compliance
Ability to read, interpret, and explain City codes, maps, site plans, and work plans
Proven ability to build effective working relationships with citizens, coworkers, and elected officials
Working Conditions
Combination of office and field work
Prolonged standing, walking, or sitting
Walking on uneven terrain and sloped surfaces
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light to moderate weight
Operation of office equipment and City vehicles
Frequent verbal communication with the public and City staff
