Job Description
Assistant Storekeeper (Material Handler)
Pay: Up to $18.00 per hour
Position Summary
The Assistant Storekeeper reports to the Stores Supervisor and supports daily storeroom operations, including receiving, issuing, shipping, storing, transferring, and inventory control of materials. This role is designed as a progression position toward Storekeeper and requires demonstrated advancement in accordance with the Stores Development Manual. Accuracy, safety, and attention to detail are critical.
Key Responsibilities
Issue, receive, store, transfer, and return stock and non-stock materials
Inspect incoming materials for accuracy and condition per purchase orders
Package, label, and properly store materials using assigned locations and FIFO procedures
Maintain accurate inventory records, initiate material claims, and prepare store documentation
Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory control and material reclassification
Load/unload trucks and operate storeroom equipment safely (forklifts, trucks, tools)
Maintain housekeeping, safety, and security standards
Respond to emergency situations as required
Assist with organization, bin setup, and storeroom improvements
Perform higher classification duties when qualified and other related tasks as needed
Skills & Abilities
Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced storeroom or warehouse environment
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Strong numerical and basic computer skills
Ability to use inventory systems, materials catalogs, and storeroom equipment
Ability to operate forklifts and stake body trucks safely
Ability to work under stress and respond to emergencies
Education & Experience
Formal education meeting minimum employment requirements
Pre-employment testing required
Prior storeroom or warehouse experience preferred but not required
Nuclear Stores roles require NRC-mandated testing
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Ability to lift, climb, work at heights, and work in confined spaces
Ability to work in hot, cold, damp, and dry environments
Ability to work around rotating equipment
Must be able to wear required PPE
Good manual dexterity and not colorblind
Licenses & Certifications (Required)
Valid Florida Chauffeur’s License
Valid Florida CDL Class B (minimum)
Forklift Operator Certification (or ability to obtain)
