ACI Certified Inspector – VDOT Roadway and Bridges
Job Description
Perform quality control testing for VDOT Roadway and Bridge construction, including field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing of contractor work to ensure contract compliance for routine, non-complex activities. This role works under the direction of a Construction Quality Control Inspector or Manager.
Pay: $20.00- $30.00 per hour DOE
Responsibilities:
- Perform materials testing, such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density
- Review placement of and perform materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards; make cylinders for delivery to labs
- Verify construction of roadway and highway materials and placement complies with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions, and contract documents
- Monitor and observe limited contractual fieldwork (excavations, storm drain piping installation, drainage facilities, concrete placement, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, pile driving) under the supervision of a more experienced inspector, with appropriate training and oversight
- Advise inspector supervisors and contractor supervisors/foremen of non-conforming field tests
- Take field measurements of materials placed/tested and record daily production and test results
- Complete daily reports with attached VDOT materials testing forms
- Receive materials delivery tickets for compliance and submit to contractor
- Take assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management and Senior Inspectors
Performance Expectations:
- Accurately record and report daily forms per project requirements
- Communicate effectively with client, contractor, staff, and supervisor
- Proactively resolve problems at the lowest level
- Adhere to project scope, schedule, and budget
- Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting
- Submit accurate time sheets, mileage, and expense reports on time each week
- Review jobsite safety daily and take immediate action to document and resolve issues
- Understand and follow OSHA Safety Standards and client corporate policies
- Maintain all required certifications and participate in training courses as required
- Understand and apply all applicable industry standards for the project
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- ACI Certification
- 0–2 years of experience
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening; background and motor vehicle checks may be required based on position
- Willingness to work near active highways, roadways, water/land bridges, marine barges/watercraft, and underground tunnel boring machines; nighttime shifts expected on a rotational basis
Preferred:
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or applicable field
- VDOT Soils and Aggregate Certification
