Capital Procurement Specialist
Job Description
Role Summary
The Capital Procurement Specialist plays a critical role in enabling the successful delivery of capital projects by leading end-to-end procurement and commercial activities at the project and site level.
Reporting into Global Procurement Capital Category Management, this role partners closely with project teams, engineering, and external delivery partners to ensure capital projects are commercially structured to deliver optimal value, manage risk, and comply with Pfizer procurement policies and governance.
The role focuses on execution excellence, translating global category strategies into effective, compliant, and value-driven procurement outcomes across design, engineering, construction, equipment, and professional services packages.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Procurement Execution
- Lead end-to-end procurement activities for assigned capital projects/categories, including market engagement, supplier prequalification, tendering, negotiation, contract award, and handover.
- Develop and execute project-specific procurement strategies aligned to Global Capital Category Management strategies and project delivery objectives.
- Manage procurement of engineering, construction, equipment, and indirect services.
- Ensure timely sourcing of long-lead, supply-constrained, or high-risk equipment and services to support project schedules.
Commercial & Contract Management
- Negotiate and manage robust commercial agreements in compliance with Pfizer procurement policies, legal requirements, and applicable SOPs.
- Support development of contract strategies, risk allocation, commercial models, and negotiation approaches appropriate to project scope and risk profile.
- Facilitate effective contract handover to contract management teams, including resolution of post-award actions.
- Support claims, change management, and dispute resolution activities in coordination with Legal, project controls, and site leadership.
Stakeholder & Project Team Partnership
- Act as the procurement business partner to site project teams, engineering, finance, quality, EHS, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Partner with Global Capital Category Management to ensure alignment to category strategies, preferred supplier frameworks, and contracting standards.
- Obtain stakeholder alignment and approvals for sourcing strategies, evaluation criteria, and award recommendations.
Value Delivery & Risk Management
- Identify opportunities to leverage global, regional, or site project procurement strategies to drive cost efficiency, risk reduction, and schedule certainty.
- Track and report savings in alignment with established procurement practices, policies, and governance standards.
- Apply market intelligence and supplier knowledge to inform sourcing decisions and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across capital procurement processes, tools, and practices.
Governance, Compliance & Best Practices
- Ensure all procurement activities adhere to Pfizer procurement practices, policies, and governance requirements.
- Support audit readiness through accurate documentation, disciplined process execution, and clear decision records.
- Promote responsible sourcing practices, including supplier qualification, performance expectations, and ethical standards.
- Share lessons learned and best practices back to Global Capital Category Management to strengthen enterprise capability.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or commercial management within capital projects, engineering, construction, or manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience executing end-to-end procurement events, including strategy development, tendering, negotiation, and contract award.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience negotiating complex contracts and managing supplier relationships.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional, and project-based environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including interaction with senior project and site leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting capital projects in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of engineering, construction, and project delivery models (e.g., EPCM, CM, Design-Build).
- Experience managing procurement of process equipment, utilities, facilities, and construction services.
- Certifications such as CPSM, CPM, MCIPS, PMP, or equivalent.
- Strong proficiency in AI, Excel, PowerPoint, and procurement or contract management systems including SAP and Ariba.
