The HVAC Technician will perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment; and related work as required.
Will be responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance and approved modifications of a wide variety of industrial equipment.
Will maintain complete equipment records and documentation related to tests, maintenance, modifications, and repairs including refrigerant installation and recovery.
Responsible for following the test, maintenance, and installation procedures established as acceptable for the equipment under the care of this department.
May assist in the development of procedures or the checkout of systems as necessary to provide acceptable availability and reliability of all systems.
Recommend improvements and modifications to procedures, process and equipment.
Assist in identifying and maintaining an adequate supply of spare parts in a cost efficient manner.
High school diploma or GED
Completion of an HVAC apprentice program and Journeyman status. May substitute or augment with Tech/Trade school Diploma in HVAC plus 5 experience in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial HVAC equipment with related training.
EPA Universal Technician Certification
Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearance including any future requirements or changes.
Experienced in operating, maintaining and installing HVAC systems. Ability to perform tasks incidental to HVAC work i.e. minor corrosion control and painting, light millwright electrical and mechanical work, safety inspections and other work as assigned.
Experience in refrigerant recovery and installation as well as experience on chilled water systems, split systems, computer room air conditioners and knowledgeable with control wiring highly desired.
Computer literacy required.
Oral and writing skills must be sufficient to effectively communicate among a diverse audience including other crafts, management and customers.
Valid Florida driver’s license
Must be able to operate a variety of motor vehicles and assigned equipment.
Ability to read and understand technical manuals and prints, ability to do various forms of paperwork (written), possess adequate math skills commensurate with the requirements of the trade.
Working indoors and outdoors with heavy physical endurance, often in inclement weather conditions is required.
Occasionally works on ladders at heights of 25 feet or more.
Frequently lifts materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to distinguish colors.
Must have the ability to work unscheduled hours during emergency and/or unusual situations (24 hours / 7 day’s week).
