HKA is offering a $2000 hiring bonus for this position.

This is a long term ongoing W2 contract position with no projected end date.

The Environmental Engineer provides technical support to the Environmental Services Department with activities regarding Environmental Regulatory Compliance of operations.

Develops, presents and explains proposals, reports, and findings to management. 

Monitors new regulations, legislation and permits for above assigned area(s) of responsibility.  Analyzes and assesses potential impact to Company operations.  Develops, implements and audits cost-effective methods for compliance with requirements. 

Creates Process Sheets and Work Instructions detailing specific requirements to ensure a high level of environmental performance in plant operations. 

Determines necessary actions, communicates such to affected departments, and audits conformance to requirements.

Creates environmental training content and conducts training sessions for internal and external environmental education and awareness campaigns.   

Manages environmental compliance reporting requirements for above assigned area(s) of responsibility. 

Supervises the collection of plant operating data, leads the development of accurate calculations, and prepares timely reports for submittal to regulatory agencies.

Plans and conducts compliance audits of operational departments to ensure that legal and other environmental requirements are met.  Provides technical leadership to departments in developing necessary corrective actions.

Plans and conducts audits of external waste disposal facilities upon request to evaluate operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance. 

Assesses risk to due to ultimate responsibility of proper handling of waste materials. 

Make changes in waste management program as needed to minimize risk.

Is responsible for developing required environmental plans (Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures, Best Management Practices, Storm Water Pollution Prevention, etc.) for above assigned area(s) of responsibility. 

Communicates requirements of developed plans to affected departments.

Manages environmental website and IT application development related to above assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Obtains environmental data, develops and conducts required calculations, prepares and submits permit applications for above assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Designs and develops required process testing plans and completes required environmental performance tests on production processes without disrupting manufacturing operations. 

Leads testing activities, coordinating closely with affected production departments.

Performs other duties as assigned by Operations Supervisor.


BA/BS degree in a technical discipline such as Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or equivalent  of 4 years of related experience in environmental compliance and reporting for a complex industrial operation. 

Technical, analytical processes and similar experiences received from a technical education.

2-4 years of manufacturing experience, and environmental management systems experience

Knowledge of environmental management in areas such as air, wastewater, solid & hazardous waste, toxic chemical management and regulations

Leadership, project management, communication and teamwork experience

Microsoft packages experience

Experience with customized databases and software

Must have experience with training, and excellent presentation skills

Experience in environment engineer, specifically waste and storm water

Previous experience with high level communications, training programs, documentation, and auditing.

Experience in supply chain management and the ability to prioritize responsibilities, and re-prioritize quickly without frustration are pluses.
