Job Description:

This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance and major mechanical repairs on company vehicles. This position is crucial to the safe and productive operation of the fleet.

The Diesel Mechanic will be expected to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision:

Heavy duty diesel engines, Manual transmissions, Clutches

Differentials, Suspensions

PTO Systems

Electric Systems, Instruments and Gauges

Hydraulic/ Air Brake systems

Heating/ Air Conditioning Systems

Perform Corrective and Preventive Maintenance Service

Diagnoses mechanical problems and performs repairs and maintenance on all equipment to maximize safe and productive operations.

Reviews and completes repairs identified on repair orders.

Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

Performs repairs and maintenance on fleet vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations.

Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing diesel engines, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels, and tires.

Road tests vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or test repairs to ensure proper and safe completion.

Change oil, lubricate vehicles, check mechanical equipment, batteries, fan belts, air and oil filters, wiper blades, headlights, lamps, tires, and tubes.

Communicate with managers/drivers as to issues with vehicles and discuss preventive techniques that minimize future repairs.

Completes all required paperwork in a timely and concise manner. Maintain accurate, updated preventive maintenance records in a computerized maintenance system.

Conducts routine safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

Conducts repairs utilizing Factory Service Manuals.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required

Vocational/Technical or certification preferred

Must have 3+ years’ experience working on heavy trucks and diesel engines.

3 - 4 years practical experience with diesel truck maintenance required

Proficiency in the use of shop tools required

A valid, clean driver’s license is required

Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred, or the willingness to acquire CDL if you do not have one

Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems
